The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) is a government organization in Pakistan responsible for managing water and power resources in the country. It was established in 1958 and operates under the administrative control of the Ministry of Energy (Power Division).

1. Hydropower Generation: WAPDA plays a significant role in the development, operation, and maintenance of hydropower projects in Pakistan. It constructs and operates large dams, reservoirs, and powerhouses to generate electricity through hydropower. Some notable hydropower projects managed by WAPDA include Tarbela Dam, Mangla Dam, and Ghazi Barotha Hydropower Project.
2. Thermal Power Generation: Alongside hydropower, WAPDA also operates and maintains thermal power plants. These plants use fossil fuels like oil and gas to generate electricity. WAPDA’s thermal power stations contribute to meeting the power demands during periods when hydropower generation is lower.
